Show Review: Fendi Fall 2013

Karl Lagerfeld has an uncanny knack for blending modernity with classic silhouettes. For his latest collection for Fendi, he looks to bring back the original meaning of the brand’s “FF” insignia, which initially stood for “fun furs.” One of fashion’s longest standing designers succeeds, playing on the house’s signature in exceptional ways. As is inherent to Fall, the brand is quite enthusiastic for the season, splashing the cozy texture everywhere from coats to booties. The Fendi woman does it all effortlessly with a touch of edge thrown in for good measure, courtesy of the collection’s mohawks that are simultaneously punk and ’80s-inspired, but equally as gentle, transforming her into a cockatoo of sorts. The palette has its unconventional moments as well including the requisite neutrals, but also giving way to brights like cobalt and neon pink.

These iterations of fur aren’t like anything you have seen before–Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi let you know that right out of the gate with multicolor stripe coats, skirts, sweaters, and accoutrements. This might be his 96th collection for the brand, but nothing feels the least bit dated or aged, showing us all exactly why Fendi has stuck with Monsieur Lagerfeld for so many years.

Though predominantly focused on the season’s neutral color palette, pops of color shine through in hues of teal, cobalt, and hot pink.

It isn’t just about fur, as leather also plays on the designs, giving them that necessary autumnal edge. From a simple sheath showcasing the texture on just one side to a wrap skirt exposing some thigh with a leather-paneled front, these pieces are among the most wearable in the collection.

Will anyone be bold enough to wear the offerings’ fur-trimmed gowns? I’m not sure the looks are a perfect match for the style of any starlet in Tinseltown at the moment, but only time will tell if these ensembles are red carpet-worthy.

Jennifer Lopez sat by front row at the fashion house’s Spring 2013 show with her adorable daughter and her right hip, Casper Smart. She looked ethereal in a white lace dress with a plunging v-neckline, quilted Chanel shoulder bag, and her favorite Tom Ford Padlock Pumps:

She threw on a black cropped jacket while outside of the venue, taking on Chanel’s signature black and white color palette.

Sigh. It’s pretty impossible to not drool over this woman!

Show Review: Louis Vuitton Spring 2013

Marc Jacobs packed a punch in his bright, short, and sweet Spring 2013 collection for Louis Vuitton which definitely had an abstract minimalist vibe, juxtaposing bold prints and colors with uncomplicated designs.




Shades of brown and burgundy got their time to shine in various check patterns, combining the shade with white and silver metallic on knee-length pencil skirts, long-sleeve crop tops, and an adorable sweater/shorts combination that read modern “It” girl for sure.





Lemon and kelly green uplifted ladylike suits, long-sleeve knee length dresses (one was sheer for an added dose of sensuality), and gowns that someone like Fan Bingbing or Zoe Saldana might have the guts to rock on the red carpet.







I couldn’t ignore the shoes and handbags from the collection, now could I?

Show Review: Versace Fall 2012 Couture

Taking place at the famed Ritz Paris, the attendees were able to view a collection that is every bit a hallmark of the iconic fashion house.


The inspiration for this offering was said to be that of tarot cards. The show was opened by model Lindsey Wixon who made her way down the runway dressed in a white A-line trench, cinched at the waist to perfection.

From there we were taken on a roller coaster that ran the gamut of titillating minidresses to elaborate evening gowns.




Each garment was crafted with the essence of a woman’s sensuality firmly in mind. There was ample use of chiffon, silk, prints, and beading. With a color palette ranging from blush pinks to look-at-me chartreuse, there was hardly a shortage of hues represented. The necklines often plunged to daring places, while the slits were cut to put thighs on full display.



I am fully loving this collection. What is perhaps brilliant is how wearable the pieces are, which is often not the case when it comes to couture. While the boundaries could have been pushed further for artistic effect, it was a stellar collection from Versace. Here’s to looking to the future, and the many amazing designs that will surely ensue.
