Show Review: Louis Vuitton Spring 2013

Marc Jacobs packed a punch in his bright, short, and sweet Spring 2013 collection for Louis Vuitton which definitely had an abstract minimalist vibe, juxtaposing bold prints and colors with uncomplicated designs.

Shades of brown and burgundy got their time to shine in various check patterns, combining the shade with white and silver metallic on knee-length pencil skirts, long-sleeve crop tops, and an adorable sweater/shorts combination that read modern “It” girl for sure.

Lemon and kelly green uplifted ladylike suits, long-sleeve knee length dresses (one was sheer for an added dose of sensuality), and gowns that someone like Fan Bingbing or Zoe Saldana might have the guts to rock on the red carpet.

I couldn’t ignore the shoes and handbags from the collection, now could I?

Try A Trend: Colored Suits

A well-fitted suit will never go out of style. The classic ensemble used to be  strictly for the fellas, but the look has since been established as a staple in the womenswear cannon.
But if you’re sitting out on the trend because you don’t want to rock dark colors in the summer– or you’re not into the white suit, fear not! There’s another alternative: the bold, bright, and colorful suit. Rihanna recently stepped out in London sporting a red and pink-trimmed number from Acne.

The look is relatively simple to achieve: just look for a well-fitted, ultra bright jacket and trousers and voila! You’ve got an instantly chic and fresh ‘fit.

Give your suit a summer edge by cuffing your pants, or lend some unconventional flavor with a body chain. Pair your suit with sky-high pumps, or if you can’t take the discomfort, do like Riri and complete your look with brogues or loafers.
Feeling adventurous? Take a page from June Ambrose‘s book and mix and match your pieces to create a colorblocked look.
Get inspired with these separates:
So what say you, Bombers? Think you’ll try a colored suit?

Who Wore it Better? Solange Knowles vs. Monica in Roberto Cavalli’s Spring 2012 Printed Satin Blazer

Solange Knowles and her “questionable,” “undefined” 4c curl pattern stepped out to last night’s ‘See What Unfolds’ event at the Trident stand in Times Square. For the evening, she opted for a black top, shorts, clear strap Pierre Hardy sandals, and a $3,660 printed satin blazer from Roberto Cavalli‘s Spring 2012 collection. She completed the look with her trusty $325 bright pink CC Skye Niki clutch.

If the blazer looks familiar, it’s because Monica Brown wore the exact same one to perform at her Mother’s Day concert at the James L. Knight center in Atlanta. The singer chose a similar color palette, betting on a black blouse, jeans, and black Christian Louboutin Daffodile pumps.

Both Monica and Solange chose to anchor the blazer with all (or in Solo’s case, mostly) black. While I think she could have gone with a funkier combination, I think Solo rocked it better. There’s just something about the way she carries herself that uplifts the whole look! And can we get into the hair and makeup? Di-vine!

Look for Less: Mary J Blige’s BBC Radio 1 Studios Red Blazer, Yellow Top, and Dark Jeans

Mary J Blige obviously loves three things: cat eye readers, color blocking, and her Hermès belt! The singer was snapped headed to BBC Radio 1 Studios in a yellow top, red blazer, and dark jeans, accented by a few well plucked Hermès accessories.

Recreating her look for less is super easy!
Pair a $22 Timeless Crewneck tee from Banana Republic with a $69 Roll Cuff Single Button Blazer from Arden B, and finish off with dark skinnies from CUSP. Accent with $79 Jessica Simpson Platform Pumps in crimson, and finish off with $14 cat eye readers from Urban Outfitters. Get the look here:
