Show Review: Fendi Fall 2013
Karl Lagerfeld has an uncanny knack for blending modernity with classic silhouettes. For his latest collection for Fendi, he looks to bring back the original meaning of the brand’s “FF” insignia, which initially stood for “fun furs.” One of fashion’s longest standing designers succeeds, playing on the house’s signature in exceptional ways. As is inherent to Fall, the brand is quite enthusiastic for the season, splashing the cozy texture everywhere from coats to booties. The Fendi woman does it all effortlessly with a touch of edge thrown in for good measure, courtesy of the collection’s mohawks that are simultaneously punk and ’80s-inspired, but equally as gentle, transforming her into a cockatoo of sorts. The palette has its unconventional moments as well including the requisite neutrals, but also giving way to brights like cobalt and neon pink.
These iterations of fur aren’t like anything you have seen before–Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi let you know that right out of the gate with multicolor stripe coats, skirts, sweaters, and accoutrements. This might be his 96th collection for the brand, but nothing feels the least bit dated or aged, showing us all exactly why Fendi has stuck with Monsieur Lagerfeld for so many years.
Though predominantly focused on the season’s neutral color palette, pops of color shine through in hues of teal, cobalt, and hot pink.
It isn’t just about fur, as leather also plays on the designs, giving them that necessary autumnal edge. From a simple sheath showcasing the texture on just one side to a wrap skirt exposing some thigh with a leather-paneled front, these pieces are among the most wearable in the collection.
Will anyone be bold enough to wear the offerings’ fur-trimmed gowns? I’m not sure the looks are a perfect match for the style of any starlet in Tinseltown at the moment, but only time will tell if these ensembles are red carpet-worthy.
Are you feeling Fendi’s latest collection?

Weekend Hot! or Hmm…: The 85th Annual Academy Awards, Jay-Z, Monica, and More!
It’s a new week Fashionistas! As we go back to slave at our
respective places of business, let’s bask in the glamour from this
weekend. On the schedule were the Oscars (and several Oscars
pre-parties), and other assorted glamorous events for our celebrity
friends to enjoy.
Let’s take a look!
When has Kerry Washington ever gotten it wrong on the red carpet? She looked simply fab in this embellished coral Miu Miu dress. Hot!
Kelly Rowland gave a generous helping of toned gam in this Donna Karan Atelier gown. Yes! I love Kelly and this dress, but the hair is looking like a Cinnabon left a little too long in the oven. But I forgive her!
As expected, miss Jennifer Lawrence stunned in Dior Haute Couture.
Quvenzhané Wallis was positively adorable in her Armani gown– and that puppy purse? My ovaries are in no condition to handle such cuteness.
Jennifer Hudson went for all-out glam in this in shimmery Robetro Cavalli Couture frock. Love!
If ever there is a famine of elegance, let Naomie Harris feed the malnourished youths. The Skyfall actress came hard once again, absolutely killin’ it in this golden gown designed by Gahanian-born Michael Badger. Badger is a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and created the dress as part of Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress Challenge.
\Okay, how amazing does Fan Bingbing‘s skin look in this Marchesa gown?
Zoe Saldana‘s Alexis Mabille gown had one too many embellishments up top. Belt, bow, bedazzled flowers? How much can one tailored bodice take?
Note to Charlize Theron: never ever grow your hair out again! The Snow White and the Huntsman actress looked fearsomely beautiful in Dior Couture and that fab pixie cut!
Adele represented for the Brits in a bead-embellished Jenny Packham gown.
Halle Berry looks better than any of us could in custom Versace.
Queen Latifah chose this Badgley Mischka frock for the evening.
I’m kind of sad to see Salma Hayek‘s bodacious decolletage covered up, but she looks absolutely sickening in this Alexander McQueen column dress! No complaints here!
Helena Bonham Carter cooked up raggly scraggly couture for the girls. They could barely swallow a morsel.
Zoe Kravitz and mum Lisa Bonet attended the Chanel Pre-Oscar dinner this weekend. I’m not keen on either of these looks.
Over in Milan, Janet Jackson served up Poetic Justice realness front row at the Roberto Cavalli show.
Jay-Z threw an afterpary for his beloved D’Ussé congac. Here he is in a graphic hoodie and link chain I want.
Ludacris offered himself as the (literal) yardstick for questionable sartorial choices in this tape measure jogging top. Monica looks as uncomfortable as I am with this look.

The 2013 Elton John Oscars Viewing Party
For celebs, if you’re not attending the big show, Elton John’s Oscar Viewing Party is definitely the place to be! A few of our favorites were in attendance this year.
Let’s get into their looks for the evening!
Chris Brown struck a pose in an Angelo Galasso suit, Alberta Ferretti shoes, and Thom Browne glasses. The man has been glowing lately, hasn’t he?
A pregnant Kim Kardashian was in attendance. The star opted for an all white ensemble. Although she looks a pinch uncomfortable, I think she looks stunning!
Kourtney Kardashian chose a more fashion forward frock. Her Brian Rennie for Basler dress was a risk that paid off. A welcome departure from the black and white looks that flooded the carpet.
Khloe Kardashian rounded out the Kardashian triumvirate in a lime colored Kaufman Franco One-Shoulder Gown from the Fall 2012 Collection. Loving this color!
Nicki Minaj kept up the white theme in this Alexander McQueen strapless frock complete with her MAC lavender lipstick. She’s beginning to leave behind the gimmick getups, and I am entirely here for the change!
A printed ensemble was the look of the night for Emeli Sande. She’s a beauty!
Miley Cyrus went with an Azzaro white backless dress and Givenchy heels. Perfection!
Umm…. Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, and Jim Carrey, ladies and gentleman…
Va va voom was on the menu for Heidi Klum in a Julien MacDonald plunging gold confection.
Naomi Campbell was simple yet impeccably chic in a floor length gown and diamond cuffs on each wrist.
Britney Spears debuted her brunette ‘do in a sequined Michael Cinco Couture dress and Saint Laurent pumps. The best I’ve seen her in a looong time!
There you have it!
Who had your favorite look at the party?
